About :
Insider Technologies is an HP Partner, operating in the Financial and Messaging markets. The Company provides Service Management, Tracking, Bespoke Software and Information Mediation solutions. Insider’s product set runs on HP NonStop, Windows and UNIX platforms. Based in Manchester, England, Insider Technologies Limited was established in 1989 by people with wide experience of the IT industry. From this collective experience, the company grew rapidly with each new employee bringing new skills and expertise.
Website :
www.insidertech.co.uk - I developed the ITL company website in 2009 using DotNetNuke which uses the ASP.NET 2.0 framework together with Microsoft SQL.
Position :
Manager - Strategic Technical Initiatives
Responsibilities :
Currently employed as a Project Manager and Pre-sales Technical Consultant at Insider Technologies. This role enables me to remain technically ‘hands-on’ for any issues or software initiatives that may arise for the company’s primary product set, namely the NSK based products Reflex 80:20, Reflex ONE24 and more recently MultiBatch and the Windows based Sentra / RTLX Reactor product. I have also attended an ASP.NET course and MS SQL course to allow me to carry out updates to the browser enabled aspects of the Sentra product.
As part of my primary management role at ITL, I successfully headed up a team to design and deliver mainframe ATM and point-of-sale monitoring software to HSBC bank in 2008. Prior to this implementation, I was heavily involved with the joint architects, Alliance & Leicester (now Santander) with the design, development and project management of the product delivery.
Since ITL is a relatively small software house, this role carries a wide range of responsibility including;
- Design and maintenance of the ITL website at http://www.insidertech.co.uk
- Project management of the complete software development life-cycle for new product initiatives
- Providing technical assistance in support situations (both in-house and on-site)
- Production of functional design documents, technical interface documents, installation scripts and program specifications for any new or proposed NSK developments
- A key part in major NSK sales bids in the UK and abroad which also includes presenting to ITL's IT Partners like Insession (now re-joined with ACI) and Logica
- Providing 24x7 technical support for; Bank of England, Royal Bank of Scotland and Euroclear (formerly CRESTCo) who provide settlement for 88% of the UK's equities
- Providing 24x7 support (team) for ITL’s own products and the Thales e-SECURITY products; Security Resource Manager (SRM) which runs on the NSK platform and both SafeSign Authentication and SafeSign Management Server which run on Windows and Unix platforms. These products provide for the request and response of Cryptographic functions (e.g. MACcing, Random Number Generation, PKI verification) to an attached application (Sentra Hypervisors 1, 2, 3).
- Design and continued maintenance of the ITL Company Website using the Open Content Management framework DotNetNuke.
- Helping to port the ITL Sentra product to run on a Unix platform by converting the existing Management Reports which are supported by Microsoft SQL Reporting Services, to use the Business Intelligence and Reporting Tools (BIRT) open source project.
I have represented ITL at the EMEA BASE24™ User Group (EBUG) in Prague, Vienna, Istanbul, Lisbon(a), Malta, Budapest, Edinburgh and South Africa (SATUG) and given presentations for the ITL BASE24™ enabled HP NonStop monitoring products as part of the EBUG’s technical track sessions. I have also represented the company at both the San Jose International Tandem User Group (ITUG) as well as the UK (BITUG) and written an article for the BITUG Newsletter on approaches to hp NonStop Enterprise Management. I attend the BITUG Special Interest Group (SIG) for HP NonStop technical updates.
This role has also to date, involved the research, design and eventual programmatic integration of ITL products with other key third-party applications. These include leading payment applications BASE24™ and BASE24-eps™ (via the NET24/XPNET layer and Transaction Log Files - (P)TLF), Insession’s (now part of ACI Worldwide) communications software, ICE™ and the Enterprise Management solutions B&B COMMAND/POST (now BMC Performance Manager™), hp OpenView™ (HP Network Node Manager™ and HP OV Operations™ for Windows - now HP Operations Center) and TIVOLI™. With the latter integration projects, I was also assigned to manage the tasks required to achieve a certified status for the solutions provided by ITL and producing supporting user documentation and marketing literature. I have also project managed and provided technical input into the creation of a new ITL product called XPERT24. This enables monitoring of BASE24™ transaction switch interchanges (approval/denial rates) as well as the states, rates and queues currently recorded against ATM and POS networks.
I have studied the PRINCE2 Project Management Foundation course as part of my role at Insider Technologies Limited, to aid in my project management duties.

Position :

Manager - ITL Operations Products
Responsibilities :
Product Manager assigned to project manage the complete development life-cycle for 4 software products, 2 HP NonStop based and 2 Windows based. This software has its main focus in the system management, automation and SLA monitoring of critical path applications running on hp NonStop systems at major financial and telecommunications institutions around the world.
These products are developed by ITL and their ongoing research, design and delivery make up the primary day-to-day role of a Product Manager at ITL, with any issues being reported directly to the Operations Director. This role involves the project management of each development phase of the products and the use of Microsoft Project (in conjunction with Outlook) for tracking progress and reporting status. It is also the responsibility of the Product Manager to provide technical guidance and leadership to assigned team members.
Development teams are typically made up of between 6-8 technical staff responsible for both hp NonStop and Windows development. The Product Manager is tasked with ensuring that the resulting software meets the original terms of reference as specified by the client or the ITL in-house technical design team. This is carried out in accordance with the ISO 9001:2000 and TickIT quality standard, which necessitates the production of the appropriate paper trails to document work carried out. All Product Managers at ITL are accountable for each development area and are subject to internal and external company audits.

Other Tasks Include :

Consultancy – Ongoing input to marketing and pre-sales activities for major bids and also existing accounts to ascertain the path forward for ITL products. Helpdesk support – Interfacing to the ITL Helpdesk to aid their handling of customer queries and problems relating to previous releases of ITL products. This requires the assigning of live software problems encountered on client sites to appropriate ITL staff, and the update of current project plans to reflect impact to ongoing in-house developments.
Live Product Support – Providing 7 * 24 hour cover for major clients who make use of ITL software as part of their system management strategy.

Born in 1968 (Firs Maternity Home) in Leigh (Lancashire, UK), I attended a couple of local schools in Hindley (Wigan) before studying Computer Science ‘A’ Level at Leigh College (Marshall Street) in the mid-eighties. In 1988, I started a 2-year Higher National Diploma (HND) in Computer Studies at Bolton Institute of Higher Education (BIHE), now the University of Bolton (Lancashire).
After graduating with a Distinction, my professional IT career started soon after in late 1990 after accepting a position as a HP NonStop (formally Tandem Computers) programmer (GUARDIAN, PATHWAY, COBOL85, NonStop SQL) at The Software Partnership in Runcorn (Cheshire). This software development role involved me with the sp/ARCHITECT-BANK™ electronic banking application and IBM host interfaces.
In late 1995, I was offered a key role as a senior programmer (GUARDIAN, PATHWAY, TAL, C/C++, COBOL85, NonStop SQL) at Insider Technologies Limited in Salford Quays (Greater Manchester). Still continuing as a specialist in the HP NonStop arena, I developed COBOL85 (SQL embedded), TAL and C/C++ PATHWAY servers for the Reflex 80:20 application. I became the Reflex Product Manager in 1998 shortly after 3-month secondment to CrestCo (now Euroclear) in London developing volume testing and benchmarking software. This software was used to test the performance of the CRESTCo Stock Settlement application on newly installed S7000 G Series HP NonStop systems (first delivered in the UK).
In 2001, I developed code (both in-house and at ACI Worldwide in Watford, UK) to integrate the ITL Reflex HP NonStop product with the XPNET layer of the BASE24™ application (developed by ACI) to provide complete Windows-based graphical monitoring for the ATM and POS estate supported by this layer (in particular, the TLF and PTLF transaction log files). This ITL product then became known as Reflex ONE24. In the following years, I also managed the certified integration of the Reflex product with the primary Enterprise Managers HP OpenView Operations™ (HP OVO - now HP Operations Center), BMC Patrol™ (formally COMMAND/POST™) and TIVOLI™.
Today still working for ITL, my main role involves overseeing technical initiatives and aiding in pre-sales situations as well as representing the company in the UK and abroad at HP NonStop IT conferences such as ITUG, EBUG and SATUG. In this pre-sales capacity, I also present the latest ITL software updates and initiatives to conference delegates attending from key European banks and other financial institutions.
Since 2005, I have worked very closely with the RTLX™ product (Real-Time Log Extraction) for BASE24™ (TLF and PTLF) log file monitoring and continue to look at other opportunities to integrate this product with other primary payment and trading applications such as BASE24-eps™.
As part of my primary management role at ITL, I successfully headed up a team to design and deliver mainframe ATM and point-of-sale monitoring software to HSBC bank in 2008. Prior to this implementation, I was heavily involved with the joint architects, Alliance & Leicester (now Santander) with the initial design, development and project management of the product. I provide out-of-hours technical assistance and support to the Bank of England, Royal Bank of Scotland and Euroclear (formerly CRESTCo).
I am currently studying the PRINCE2 project methodology in order to extend my IT management skills still further.
I have developed some ASP.NET code for the RTLX Reactor™ product and work in this area has also given me an interest in .NET technology and more specifically DotNetNuke, an open source web application framework hence this website. Along with this, I also maintain a photographic timeline for the MediaCity:UK (MC:UK) Peel development in Salford Quays which will be home to the BBC in 2010/11. The MC:UK development was started in June 2007.
I have designed and built (1, 2) the current company website at www.insidertech.co.uk and increased the website ranking to page one of Google and other search engines. This has meant learning Windows ASP.NET 2.0 and SQL Server 2005 technology as well as attending website authoring, design and prominence courses. I have also upgraded my own personal website to use this same technology.
I live in Bolton (Lancashire) with Sarah and daughter Freya. My pastimes include golf (member at Worsley Park in Manchester), tennis, pool, badminton, squash, cinema, photography, learning French and of course, maintaining this website.
